This tropical baby earns its fenestrations over time, and interestingly enough, they have a utility!
The Monstera Deliciosa are native to the rainforest where the large holes (fenestrations) they develop with maturity, are better suited to withstand heavy rainfall and wind as they let the elements pass through their holes! (Yes, these are the perfect plant to water in the shower!)
Though this is a more common plant nowadays, it was only described in 1840 by Danish botanist Liebmann when he found th e species in Mexico. It took nearly 200 years after the discovery of the Adansonii, because it is really raere to see it in the wild! However, it does grow quickly from a cutting when propagated!
SMALL 2" pot
MEDIUM 4" pot
LARGE 6-10" pot (depending on species)
SOIL: loose and moisture-retaining (always pot with a drainage hole so the plants do not sit in water)
LECA: Birkins thrive in it! :)
Moss/Water Prop: Yes, but with a full plant, this method is not needed! :)
LIGHT: Bright, indirect light. Remember, these are tropical plants that are used to getting indirect light from under a tropical canopy! Make sure you don't use direct light for too long- the plant will dry up and you could lose leaves! East or west facing windows are best :)
WATER: Wait until soil is mostly (but not all) dry before giving it a good drenching!
HUMIDITY: Can live okay in light humidity, but will thrive in high humidity! (Tropical plants!) Pro tip- a humidifier is good for both you and your plant!
FERTILIZER: balanced liquid fertilizer once a month in winter! Increase in spring and growing season
GROWTH: Can grow 1-3.5 feet in height
REPOT: Rate of growth determines how often you need to repot!
-A NOTE ON SHIPPING-
I am a one-woman show pursuing my passion projects of mycology, herbology, and botany, within both my business and my YouTube, while maintaining a full-time job in clinical research. All plants are shipped 2-day priority, and I tend to take them to the post office on Mondays or Tuesdays. Please do allow for 3-10 business days for processing. I want to ensure your planty babies are well-cared for, well-packaged, and not hastily shoved into a box. Shoot me a message at info@lorelune.com if your order is time-sensitive! Thank you for your understanding in advance :)
